Why climb
A cool question I’ve been asked is why do you do it, and why do people go to the mountains in the first place? 🗻
Let me try to tell you about myself first. I can only guess about the others.
First and most main: it’s fun. More than 20 years ago I came to the climbing wall, tried climbing and realized: class, this is definitely my thing!
And that’s it, that’s the main motive – I climb because it makes me happy.
If there is a big break in climbing – I get bored. I definitely don’t climb enough to feel good.
The second important thing is that it fits my nature. I don’t go against my nature, I’m an introvert. I don’t compete with others, I don’t throw the ball 🎾 I don’t do faster and better than others.
I’m a process person. I like the process, I’m totally in it when I’m climbing. What happens if I put my foot here and move my hand here? I am 100% in the moment, I have no time to think about anything else 🧠
Third: I need my own space and time to myself. It’s important for me to be able to give myself that recharge. I am constantly doing something in my daily life and rarely give myself the opportunity to do nothing. That’s why rock climbing trips are a lifesaver for me. There time stops, slows down its run. And I slow down with it.
Here are my main motivations:
- I love nature and silence
- Escape from a sedentary lifestyle
- I came to conquer my fears and overcome myself
- I’m running away from my home and daily routine
- I came to try something new
- for better health
These are interesting thoughts. What’s closer to you?
